Beth Arnold

Beth Arnold is a partner at Foley, Hoag & Eliot LLP. She is a registered patent attorney and member of the Massachusetts Bar. Ms. Arnold has over 12 years of experience in obtaining worldwide patent protection on products and technologies and in negotiating and drafting technology transfer and commercialization agreements. Her clients include companies and research institutes that are developing innovative therapeutic, drug development and diagnostic products and technologies.

Ms. Arnold focuses on working closely with clients to efficiently develop strong patent portfolios and avoid third party infringements. She also performs patent due diligence in connection with public or private financings, mergers and acquisitions. Beth Arnold has expertise in drafting infringement, validity and patentability opinions. She also routinely negotiates and drafts agreements for developing and commercializing technology and products, including research and license agreements.

Ms. Arnold was formerly an in-house patent counsel at Genzyme Corporation, where she was active in building patent portfolios protecting Genzyme’s cystic fibrosis, gene therapy, genetic testing and transgenic technologies. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, she worked in the technology transfer office at the Massachusetts General Hospital and in the pharmaceutical research division of Hoechst Aktiengesellschaft.

She received a B.S. (cum laude, 1983) in Marine Biology from the University of Rhode Island, an M.S. in Molecular Biology (cum laude, 1986) from Boston University and a J.D. from Northeastern University (1989). She is author of the book Patenting Biotechnology: An Overview (the Boston Patent Law Association), and a co-author of the treatise Biotechnology: Law, Business and Regulation (Aspen Law & Business). Ms. Arnold is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), Boston Patent Law Association (BPLA), Licensing Executives Society (LES), Co-Chair of the Greater Boston Regional Chapter), the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), the American Bar Association (ABA) and Boston Bar Association (BBA).
