David Brook

David E. Brook is a founding Principal in the intellectual property law firm, Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds, P.C., in Lexington, Massachusetts. He has represented university and corporate clients for over thirty years in intellectual property matters in many fields, including chemistry, chemical engineering, materials, biotechnology and medical devices. Previously, he served on the corporate patent staffs of Itek Corporation, the Atlantic Research Corporation and E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. He holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Rhode Island, M.S. degree in chemical engineering from Northeastern University, and J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

Historical Notes Relating to the Patenting of Biological Inventions

Mr. Brook is a member of the Board of Directors of several high technology corporations. He is an Adjunct Professor at Suffolk University Law School and at the Franklin Pierce Law Center, where he also serves as a member of the Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property. He has presented many invited lectures, including lectures at the M.I.T. Innovation Center and for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education.

He is regis­tered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the Bar in Massachusetts, the District of Columbia and Virginia. He is also a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, in which he served as Chairman of its Intellectual Property Committee; the Boston Patent Law Association, where he is a past-Chairman of the Chemical Practice Committee; the American Bar Association; the American Intellectual Property Law Association; the Central Middlesex Bar Association; and Phi Delta Phi Honorary Legal Fraternity.
