
English born mathematical physicist and professor emeritus of physics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J. His research has focused not only on the internal physics of stars and the interactions of subatomic particle beams but also on the origin of life in the universe. He is the 2000 recipient of the of the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion.
