Organisms composed of cells that have a nucleus (i.e., the nucleus, where the genetic material resides, is separated from the rest of the cell, called the cytoplasm, by a complex membrane called the nuclear envelope). The earliest single-celled forms of such organisms appeared about 2 billion years ago.
